What is a tick in futures?
A tick is the smallest price increment a contract can move. ES moves in 0.25-point ticks worth $12.50; MES moves in the same 0.25 ticks but each is worth $1.25.
How do I convert a stop into dollars?
Dollar risk = stop in ticks x tick value x contracts. A 12-tick stop on 2 MES contracts is 12 x $1.25 x 2 = $30.
Why do micro contracts matter for small accounts?
Micros are one tenth the size of the standard contract, so a small account can size correctly instead of being forced into a single oversized position.
