Partial exit

Definition

Closing part of a position while letting the rest run.

Why it matters

Scaling out lowers variance and lowers expectancy at the same time. Log both scenarios to see which you actually prefer.

Example

Selling half at +1R and trailing the rest converts a 45% win rate into a much smoother equity curve at the cost of some average win.

How to track it in a journal

TradeStack calculates the core performance numbers — win rate, average win and loss, profit factor, expectancy, drawdown and consistency — automatically from imported trades, so partial exit stops being something you estimate and becomes something you read.
